Pokemon: admit you still love it

Greetings Earthlings,

Today the Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver versions were released for the Nintendo DS here in North America. These two new games are remakes of the original Pokemon Gold and Silver versions which many remember playing on their old school game boys.

The plot line and setting of the new remakes mirror their predecessors, with the plot line of the Crystal version infused as well. Of course the graphics have been greatly improved and all the music has been digitally remastered to better take advantage of the DS’s superior audio capabilities.  The best new perk is that there are more pokemon to capture which lets the player be extremely creative in creating a squad. The two new versions can also trade with the other fourth generation pokemon games which really opens the floodgates and lets the player get his hands on hundreds of different pocket monsters

Nintendo is hoping this game will appeal to new younger consumers who missed out on the original games and also bring back fans who feel they have out grown pokemon. This strategy works, too. My younger brother and myself went together to pick up our copies.

The remakes have grown with the series. All pokemon now have natures and other perks that are standard in the fourth generation. Double battles were not around in the original versions but now occur in this game. All the gyms have been redone so that they are trickier and harder to get to the Leader. TMs and their locations differ from the originals because they must be the same ones available in the other fourth generation games like the Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum versions

Another plus to these remakes are that they allow trainers to battle one another via the Nintendo Wifi Connection. It is wonderful that modern capabilities have been implemented to a classic game. The online capabilities really break down barriers between trainers who need each other to trade and battle.

This is a great remake and a great buy, especially if your old games do not work any more. Spring break is here and everybody has time on their hands, why not take a trip down memory lane with pikachu?
