It’s rare that you will make a direct sale on Facebook or Twitter. It’s not to say it doesn’t happen. But likely you will use your social media channels to drive traffic somewhere else. 

The first thing that needs to happen when a user visits your site is that you must ENGAGE them. After you engage the user give them something they didn’t have before.

The transfer of knowledge is where you need to be creative in how you ask for the users contact information. Create information products (ebooks, blogs, podcasts) and protect them behind an email request form. When the user drops their email in your form in exchange for information you just converted the lead.
